Auditions
Polyphonic Voices is a project-based choir and does not rehearse throughout the year. Rehearsals are generally scheduled within 6-8 weeks of an upcoming concert, and the group of singers for any given concert will be tailored to fit the demands of the repertoire. For each concert, there is a fixed number of singers per part, usually ranging from 16-24 in total.
Eligibility
As you may be required to sing a part with only one or two others, you need to be a very confident singer and sight-reader who can learn music quickly, and sing musically and in tune. Previous experience singing in similarly-sized ensembles will be viewed favourably.
Send us a message using the form below to tell us about yourself, your singing experience and the vocal part you would like to audition for. Our Artistic Director, Michael Fulcher, will review your audition application and arrange a time with you to audition.
Audition preparation
Please take some time to prepare for your audition.
One prepared piece of your choice (bring a printed copy of your chosen piece for the Artistic Director). This could be an extract from an choral work, or a piece of solo repertoire.
One set work. Depending on your indicated experience, the Artistic Director may request you to learn a set piece of music a week prior to your audition. This is to asses your ability to learn music in a reasonably short time-frame. The piece will be sent to you.
Your audition will also include:
Exercises to establish vocal range.
Aural tests (such as interval recognition, identifying notes in 3- and 4-note chords).
Sight-reading.
